NBA legend and former All-Star Charles Barkley recently told NBA.com that he really wants to be in Cleveland in person, to see LeBron James play.
“It’s going to be amazing, one of the coolest things. I really want to be there and see it in person, because television really doesn’t do it justice,” Barkley said.
He went on to add that Cleveland Cavaliers, now that they have Kevin Love, are “in the conversation with the Chicago Bulls as the best team in the East.”
“They’ve got the whole season to learn, they got the best player on the planet, they got the best power forward on the planet. The biggest adjustment will be Kyrie Irving,” Barkley told NBA.com.
Former NBA All-Star also touched upon how the Miami Heat fans would respond to James coming back to Miami.
“If Miami doesn’t cheer Lebron, there’s something wrong with them. He won them two championships, he got them into the finals 4 years in a row. And he wanted to go home. IF they cant appreciate him for what he did, there’s something wrong with them,” Barkley said.
As for Chicago Bulls and their star Derrick Rose, Barkley says Rose will have to prove that he can stay healthy for the entire season and for the playoffs.
Barkley noted that the Bulls had a great addition in Pau Gasol, but the key for the Bulls to beating Cleveland will be Derrick Rose.
“Rose is a great person and a great player, but he’s got to stay healthy. Rose has to play good not just for one or two months, he’s got to stay healthy for 82 reg season games, and playoffs as well,” Barkley said.
Speaking about the San Antonio Spurs, who won the NBA title last season, Barkley said he has never seen anything like it.
“I thought there was no way they could overcome that. It was incredible. Now they got (Becky) Hammon, proving that they’re the best organization in the NBA. I am never going to count those guys out again,” he noted.
Barkley, a current TNT’s NBA analyst, added that the NBA has always been progressive.
“We talk about all kinds of sports in the U.S., but there has been no league that has been more progressive towards blacks, when it comes to general managers, coaches, obviously players. We’ve been amazing,” Barkley said, adding that he personally appreciates guys like Bill Russell, Wilt (Chamberlain), Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar), Jim Brown (football player), “all those guys who did the heavy lifting.”
Charles Barkley, an 11-time All-Star, was named one of the NBA’s all-time 50 greatest players in 1993, the same year he won the league’s Most Valuable Player award.
Barkley, a Hall of Famer, competed in the 1992 and 1996 Olympic games and won 2 gold medals. He holds career NBA averages of 22.1 ppg and 11.7 rpg in 36.7 minutes on the court. Barkley played in 1073 NBA games, starting in 1012 of them.Follow @exnbadotcom
