cliff-levingstonThe Rochester RazorSharks named former NBA player Cliff Levingston as their new coach at Blue Cross Arena at the Community War Memorial.

According to the RazorSharks owner Severko Hrywnak, Levingston was selected out of 4 candidates.

Levingston, who played 11 seasons in the NBA and won two NBA championships as a member of the Chicago Bulls.

Levingston played in 830 NBA games (216 started), averaging 7.1 points, 5.2 rebounds in 20.4 minutes per game.

He had his best scoring season in 87-88, when he averaged 10 ppg for the Atlanta Hawks. Levingston averaged a career-high 7.6 rebounds per game in 85-85, also with the Hawks.

Speaking of the new job, Levingston said that what drew him to the organization was the quality and basically the foundation.

“The foundation has been so strong, so rock-solid, it’s hard to pass up an opportunity to be with a good organization. The RazorSharks have been strong in the community, and I’ve always been community-based. That’s one thing we talked about. I was very honored to be asked to be one of the coaches,” Levingston said.

Levingston replaces former coach Rod Baker, who left earlier this year to take an assistant coaching job with the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA DL.

In 2000, Levingston began his coaching career as head coach for the Dodge City Legends of the United States Basketball League (USBL), where he won “Coach of the Year “in 2002.

Levingston will join the team this week as the RazorSharks prepare for the 2013 PBL season, scheduled to begin in March. Levingston will look to continue the team’s success, which includes four PLB championships since the RazorSharks inaugural season in 2005.

The Rochester RazorSharks are a professional basketball team based in Rochester, New York. They are members of the Premier Basketball League and play their home games at the Blue Cross Arena in downtown Rochester.

Baker was the only coach in Rochester history, leading the team to four titles in two different leagues. Levingston will also name an assistant coach. The Premier Basketball League season starts in March.
