Ex-NBA center Vlade Divac says LA Lakers to win NBA title this season

vlade-divac-lakersFormer LA Lakers center Vlade Divac thinks the Lakers are set to win the NBA title this season, LA Times reported.

“Lakers are an elite team and I’m sure they’re going to do better than last year,” Divac said.

“It’s not going to happen two years in a row to have a bad season. The Lakers are going to be definitely one of those teams that can win the championship next year,” he added.

When Divac said “next year”, he was referring to this upcoming season and not next year as in the summer of 2014 when the list of potential free agents is exciting.

Divac also said that if he were to come back to the league, he would want to play with Kobe Bryant.

“He’s a guy who really makes everybody better on the floor and I love those kind of players,” Divac said about Bryant.

Divac himself played for LA Lakers for 8 seasons (535 games, started in 405), averaging 12.2 ppg, 8.2 rpg and 1.4 bpg. He averaged career high 16 ppg backed up by 10.4 rpg and 2.2 bpf for the Lakers during the 1994-95 season.

Divac also played for Charlotte Hornets and Sacramento Kings.

He has made a name for himself in the NBA as a sharpshooting center, both capable of blocking shots in the paint, and knocking down an outside jumper. Divac made it to the NBA All-Star team during the 2000-2001 NBA season.

He appeared in total of 1134 NBA games (979 started), averaging 11.8 ppg, 8.2 rpg and 1.4 bpg.
