Ex-NBA forward from China signs with Guangdong Southern Tigers


yi-jianlian-netsFormer NBA forward from China, Yi Jianlian, has signed a two-year contract with the Guangdong Southern Tigers, the club has announced.

The Southern Tigers won the Chinese championship last season.

Jianlian’s deal does not contain an NBA out clause, meaning he will not be let out until 2015. The 7-0 foot Jianlian was the sixth overall pick of the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2007 NBA draft.

He averaged 8.6 ppg and 5.2 rpg as a rookie, and was traded to New Jersey Nets the following season, where he spent seasons 2008-09, 2009-10.

Jianlian averaged career-best 12.0 ppg and 7.2 rpg as Nets’ starting power forward. He last played in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks during 2011-2012 season.

Jianlian played a total of 5 seasons in the NBA, 272 NBA games, starting in 163 of them, and averaging 7.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg in 22.2 mpg.
