Ex-NBA forward ready to coach Japanese Toyama Grouses towards championship

bob-nash-japan-2With a familiar face still in charge, the Toyama Grouses will resume their quest for a championship when the season tips off in October, the Japan Times reported.

The team’s head coach, former NBA and ABA player Bob Nash will be back on the bench for a third season, the Eastern Conference squad confirmed. Nash’s team has a 77-27 record in the past two seasons.

The Grouses captured the East’s 2013-14 regular-season crown with a franchise-best 42-10 record and advanced to the Final Four, finishing third overall among the participants.

In a statement, Nash said he’s thankful to have the opportunity to continue as the head coach of the Grouses for the 2014-2015 season, adding that as a team they will pursue the goal of winning the championship.

“We ask for your continued support this upcoming season as we begin our journey towards a championship. Once again I am happy to return to coach the Toyama Grouses,” Nash said, addressing the team’s fans.

Nash resides in Hawaii during the offseason. He played both in the NBA (4 seasons) and ABA (one season). He averaged 4.7 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 11.7 mpg in the NBA, where he played for Detroit Pistons and Sacramento (Kansas City) Kings. Nash played a total of 236 games in NBA and ABA, averaging 4.7 ppg and 2.3 rpg in 11.6 mpg.
