Ex-NBA guard Anthony Johnson picked for Hall of Fame


anthony_johnsonFormer NBA player Anthony Johnson and ex-College of Charleston athletic director Jerry Baker are among the four picked for the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame.

The school announced the group of inductees Friday. The four will be enshrined Feb. 16. Also honored are former sailing standout Kara Shadwick-Museler and ex-men’s soccer player Luiz Vieira.

Johnson played for the Cougars from 1994-97 and helped the school to two NCAA tournament appearances.

He was the college’s first NBA draft pick when taken by the Sacramento Kings in 1997. Johnson went on to play 13 seasons of pro ball with five NBA teams.

Johnson appeared in 793 NBA games (249 started), averaging 5.6 ppg and 2.9 apg in 19.6 minutes on the court. He finished his career after two back-to-back seasons with the Orlando Magic.
