Ex-players A.C. Green, Dell Curry to participate in NBA Fan Appreciation Day in Shanghai

nba-players-shanghaiThe Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors announced on Tuesday that they will be hosting the NBA Fan Appreciation Day on Oct. 17 at the Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai.

Former NBA players Dell Curry, Muggsy Bogues and A.C. Green will reportedly be making appearances, along with the NBA Fan Patrol, the Lakers Girls, Warriors Girls, and the Warriors’ Dunk Team the Flying Dubs.

Dell Curry played 16 seasons in the NBA, and is best remembered for his days with the Charlotte Hornets. Curry averaged career-high 16.3 ppg for Hornets during the 1993-94 season.

He played a total of 1083 NBA games (99 started), averaging 11.7 ppg in 21.7 mpg. Curry was considered one of the best 3-point shooters in the 90’s and holds a career .40 percent average of shooting from beyond the arc.

NBA’s “Iron Man” A.C. Green has been known to almost never miss a game throughout his career, which lasted for 16 seasons. He missed only 3 games in his entire career, and has never missed a game in 14 seasons.
Green won 3 NBA championships with LA Lakers (1987, 1988, 2000), and participated in an NBA All-Star game in 1990. Green played a total of 1278 NBA games (832 started), averaging 9.6 ppg, 7.4 rpg in 28.6 mpg.

Bogues appeared in total 889 NBA games (556 started), averaging 7.7 ppg, 7.6 apg and 2.6 rpg in 28.6 minutes on the court.

The event will be free and has been put together to give thanks to fans in China for their support of  the NBA Global Games 2013 between the Warriors and Lakers on Oct. 15 in Beijing and Oct. 17 in Shanghai.

It will be an interactive event that will provide more than 13,000 fans in attendance an opportunity watch both teams take part in drills and various basketball activities.

A few select fans will have the chance to participate with the teams in three-point and half-court shooting contests.

The tickets to the event will be made available to the public via a series of promotions handled by the NBA digital marketing partners.

The fans will also partake in counting down the final five shots that will taken by the special guest former NBA players for the “Shoot Two Million Hoops” program, which is a campaign devised between the NBA and the Shanghai Sports Bureau that was created to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle among children.

The program initially began on May 31 motivating children to shoot at basketball hoops at hundreds of schools and communities throughout Shanghai.

Before the event commences, the Lakers players and team head coach Mike D’Antoni will conduct a NBA Fit clinic for 60 Special Olympics athletes, which will include several different fitness drills and competitions that will inspire children to choose to live a healthy lifestyle.

This is the second go around for the NBA Fan Appreciation Day as it initially launched last year in Shanghai when the NBA scheduled two preseason games in China between the Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat.

The entire 2013-14 NBA Global games features 12 teams playing 10 regular season and preseason games in eight cities in six countries and territories across the globe, which also surpasses single-season record for the most NBA teams to play games internationally.

The NBA Global games will also be played in Bilbao, Spain;  Rio de Janiero, Brazil; Manila, Philippines; Mexico City, Mexico, Istanbul, Turkey; London and Manchester, UK; and Taipei.
