Father of ex-NBA center Vlade Divac dies in car crash


vlade-divacAccording to a police report, 77-year old Milenko Divac, the father of former NBA center Vlade Divac, died at a hospital on Jan. 8, after the car he was in struck a pole and overturned several times near Cacak, central Serbia, on Jan. 7, AP reported.

Divac’s 72-year-old mother, Radmila, who was reportedly driving the car, was seriously injured but is expected to survive.

Divac played for LA Lakers for 8 seasons (535 games, started in 405), averaging 12.2 ppg, 8.2 rpg and 1.4 bpg. He averaged career high 16 ppg backed up by 10.4 rpg and 2.2 bpf for the Lakers during the 1994-95 season.

He also played for Charlotte Hornets and Sacramento Kings. Divac also made it to the NBA All-Star team during the 2000-2001 NBA season.

He appeared in total of 1134 NBA games (979 started), averaging 11.8 ppg, 8.2 rpg and 1.4 bpg.

Currently, Divac heads the Serbian Olympic Committee.
