Former NBA guard ends up in African clubs league


andre_owensFormer NBA guard Andre Owens will join the Recreativo do Libolo team and will reportedly playin the African clubs winners league in December in Tunisia.

He will also participate in the 2014/2015 senior men national basketball championship (Bic-Basket).

Recreativo do Libolo released a statement saying that Owens is already with the team, preparing to participate in the league of African clubs, to take place from 12 to 21 December in Tunisia.

A 6’4, Owens played competitively at Perry Meridian High School where he was an Indiana All-Star in his senior season. Owens attended Indiana University and then transferred to the University of Houston.

He was signed as a free agent with the Utah Jazz in 2005 and played 23 games for the team during the 2005-06 season, averaging 3.0 ppg.

After playing the following season in the D-league, Owens joined the Indiana Pacers, where he appeared in 31 games (7 started), averaging 4.0 ppg in 12.6 mpg.

From there on, Owens went to Europe. In Sept. 2008 he signed a one-year contract for Serbian Adriatic League team KK Crvena Zvezda.

In 2009, he signed with Türk Telekom B.K. in Ankara. The same year he signed with Lokomotiv Kuban in Krasnodar (Russian Basketball Super League).

In October 2010 he signed a one-month contract with Bàsquet Manresa, and after his contract expired in November he signed with CB Granada until the end of the 2010-11 season, but left the team in March 2011. He then signed with the Ukrainian club BC Donetsk.
