Former NBA player Chris Herren partners with Nation’s largest network of addiction treatment

Herren3CRC Health Group, the nation’s largest provider of addiction treatment and related behavioral health services, has announced a new partnership with former NBA basketball player Chris Herren to help raise awareness about addiction and treatment options.

The partnership will involve joint public speaking events and media tours.

“CRC Health Group is very pleased to announce this new collaboration with Chris Herren,” said CRC CEO Andrew R. Eckert.

“There are over 20 million people who need but do not receive treatment in this country, and we hope our work with Chris will help us reach these individuals to make them aware of the many treatment options that exist, reminding them that there is hope.”

Alcohol and drug-free since August 1, 2008, Herren struggled with substance abuse for much of his basketball career with the Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics.

After playing 70 games from 1999-2001, Chris’ NBA career was over after a season ending knee injury.

During his NBA career, Herren played 45 games for Denver Nuggets (averaging 3.1 ppg, 2.5 apg) and 25 games for Boston Celtics (3.3 ppg, 2.2 apg).

In total, Herren appeared in 70 NBA games, averaging 3.2 ppg, 2.4 apg in 14.4 minutes per contest. After being released by the Celtics, Herren went on to play professionally for teams in Italy, Poland, Turkey, China, and Iran.

He has since refocused his life to put his sobriety and family above all else, along with a mission to help others.

“As I travel the United States speaking and sharing my story, each day I see first-hand the need for effective treatment programs,” said Herren.

“CRC Health Group offers a comprehensive network of treatment facilities and programs nationwide and I look forward to working with them to make a difference in the lives of people struggling with substance abuse.”

CRC also supports the message of Herren’s Project Purple campaign, an initiative of The Herren Project, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation that assists individuals and families struggling with addiction.

The campaign was launched to help break the stigma of addiction, bring awareness to the dangers of substance abuse, and shed light on effective treatment practices.

Headquartered in Cupertino, California, CRC Health Group is the most comprehensive network of specialized behavioral healthcare services in the nation.
