Grant Hill didn’t buy LA Clippers, but wants to buy Atlanta Hawks

grant-hill-suitedNBA’s Atlanta Hawks team has been put on sale, and several former NBA players have emerged as having interest in purchasing the team.

Among them are Dominique Wilkins, the Hawks’ former star, Dikembe Mutombo and ex-NBA star forward Chris Webber.

Now, it seems like another well-known former NBA star has interest in purchasing the Hawks. That is Grant Hill, who retired from the NBA in 2014.

According to NBA’s official website, Hill, along with another former NBA player Junior Bridgeman and former NBA GM Bryan Colangelo are creating a group to make a bid for the Atlanta Hawks.

It will probably be a while before a group is finalized. The NBA has come out strongly and insisted that the Hawks will not move from Atlanta, so that rules out any group planning on moving the franchise.

The Hawks team was owned by three groups: A Washington-based group (50.1 percent), an Atlanta-based group (32.3 percent) and a New York based group (17.6 percent). The NBA has approved agreements for all three groups to sell their stakes in the franchise.

According to the estimates, the Hawks franchise could be sold for more than $700 million.

Previously in May 2014, the LA Clippers team has been reportedly purchased for $2 billion, while another NBA team – the Milwaukee Bucks was sold for $550 million.

Back in 2014, Grant Hill’s name was mentioned in talks regarding the purchase of then-on sale NBA team LA Clippers. At the time, reportedly Hill formed an ownership group to bid on the Clippers.
