Michael Jordan is regarded as being not only one of the greatest basketball players in history, he’s also a good businessman, being added to the Forbes’ list of millionaires.
Jordan is now the 513th-richest person in the United States with a net worth of an even $1.0 billion, according to Yahoo.
As the values of NBA franchises have increased, so did Jordan’s revenue. Former Chicago Bulls star owns the Charlotte Hornets, which saw its value increase from $410 million last year to $725 million this year. Forbes reported Jordan’s stake in the team is worth $500 million. This is while he bought the team for $275 million in 2010.
Considering the NBA’s big new deal with ESPN and Turner, the networks will pay the NBA an average of $2.66 billion per year. That works out to an extra $57 million in revenue per year for Jordan’s Hornets.
The rest of Jordan’s worth comes from his Nike deal, which earned him $90 million in 2013 alone.
Back in February Forbes reported that Jordan has failed for the 29th straight year to become the richest person in the world.
A six-time NBA champion, Jordan earned fame and fortune on the basketball court, as well as through endorsements and movies. The Hall of Fame player won the NBA Most Valuable Player award five times and was named an all-star 14 times.
His on-court success and commercial endorsements have made him one of the most recognizable and prosperous athletes in the United States. Jordan played in total 1072 NBA games (1039 started), averaging 30.1 ppg, 6.2 rpg in 38.3 minutes per contest.Follow @exnbadotcom
