Kobe Bryant made history, surpassing Michael Jordan on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, becoming the third to score the most points in history.
Bryant currently is only behind former Utah Jazz forward Karl Malone (36,928 points) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 points).
Jordan has previously congratulated Bryant on reaching a new career milestone, saying Bryant is “obviously a great player, with strong work ethic and has an equally strong passion for the game of basketball.”
“I’ve enjoyed watching his game evolve over the years, and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes next,” Jordan’s message had said.
However, Jordan also encouraged Kobe to aim for the next target – that is Karl Malone.
According to Chicago Tribune, Bryant said Jordan’s message to him was simple – “Go get Karl. The competitor never stops.”
“It was more of a thankful feeling to Michael and the players who came before because I’ve learned so much from them,” Bryant said. “And I don’t say that lightly. I’ve literally just stolen (stuff) from them — like spin moves and pull-ups. It’s not me passing these players. It’s us.”
Considering Bryant’s age, he will unlikely reach Abdul-Jabbar, however if he manages to stay healthy, he will be able to reach Malone.
Bryant will have to play beyond his current contract, which ends after next season, to reach or surpass Malone.Follow @exnbadotcom
