Legendary NBA center Hakeem Olajuwon was known for anything but trash talking.
Recent comments by someone, who played both in the Olajuwon era and is still playing today in the LeBron James era, confirm that “The Dream” could talk trash as well.
Kevin Garnett, who is known for being a trash talker himself, has a lot to remember about the best trash talkers during his NBA years.
Speaking with ESPN, Garnett was asked to name his top trash talkers. Garnett first named Payton and Jordan – both who were undoubtedly great trash talkers in their day.
But then, Garnett named Olajuwon. The same Hakeem Olajuwon that led the Houston Rockets to two NBA championships in 1993 and 1994.
“Believe it or not, Hakeem Olajuwon,” Garnett said. “He was a nightmare some nights, man. He played with a mouthpiece.”
“I definitely could hear it, articulate it, understand it, comprehend it,” Garnett said.
“Jordan was a great trash-talker,” Garnett said, when asked to elaborate on his choices. “I thought Gary Payton controlled the game with his trash-talking because he talked to the refs, talks to the fans. He was similar to Charles Barkley, but under control a little more.”
Charles was a little [forward] at times, and [it] kind of carried him off the floor. Thought GP did a great job of just controlling the game with his trash-talking.”
Meanwhile, Garnett didn’t say anything about himself talking trash.
“Me?” Garnett asked. “You just hear stories about me talking trash. You never have living [proof] that I talk trash.”Follow @exnbadotcom
