PBA signs ex-NBA All-Rookie First team forward Al Thornton

al-thorntonNLEX Road Warriors of the PBA (Philippines Basketball Association) have signed former NBA player Al Thornton to play in the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The team plans to use Thornton, the NBA All-Rookie First Team awardee, in its stint in a Dubai international set Jan. 14-25, according to PhilStar.

The Road Warriors are confident they have found a gem of an import in Thornton, a legitimate NBA player with stints with the Los Angeles Clippers, the Washington Wizards and the Golden State Warriors.

“I’ve been watching his videos and reading his profiles, and he is quite a versatile player,” the NLEX coach Boyet Fernandez said.

“He can shoot from the outside, he can attack the basket and can post up as well. I heard he can play defense and he could really be a big plus factor for our team.”

Thornton played his first two NBA seasons with the LA Clippers, averaging career-high 16.8 ppg and 5.2 rpg during the 2008-09 season.

In total he played in 296 NBA games (started 167), averaging 11.9 ppg, 4.2 rpg in 28 mpg.
