Earlier in January, former NBA star forward Spencer Haywood wrote an article on LegendsCorner, regarding him being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
“I think I’ve been left out of the NBA Hall of Fame because when you fight against the system, the system looks at you as a great enemy,” he wrote.
“It doesn’t mean if you win or lose. The NBA won because I won. The ABA was taking all those underclassmen, so it would have been the ABA and NOT the NBA that would be the premier professional basketball league,” Haywood wrote. “I understand the politics and the way it works. When you go all the way to the Supreme Court, there will obviously be anger and dislikes.”
He said his hope was to get into the Basketball Hall of Fame this year.
“I hope that I get into the Hall of Fame this year. I’d get to go in with Shaq. In the end, I hope that I can laugh about it all,” he said.
Haywood was a 4-time NBA All-Star, one-time ABA All-Star. He appeared in 84 ABA games, averaging 30 ppg and 19.5 rpg.
In the NBA, Haywood played 760 games, holding career averages of 19.2 ppg, 9.3 rpg. Overall, Haywood played 844 games (ABA, NBA), averaging 20.3 ppg and 10.3 rpg in 34.8 mpg.Follow @exnbadotcom
