Ex-NBA champion dies at 68

john-johnsonFormer NBA player John Johnson, has died at age 68 in his home in San Jose, said Johnson’s godson. The case of death was not revealed, AP reported.

Johnson is survived by two sons, according to NY Times.

Johnson, who attended the University of Iowa, was drafted by the Cleveland Cavs in 1970 and made himself into an All-Star in 1971 and 1972.

Johnson averaged career-high 17.0 ppg for Cleveland in the 1971-72 season.

Johnson appeared in a total of 869 NBA games, averaging 12.9 ppg in 29.6 mpg, playing for Cleveland Cavs, Portland TrailBlazers, Houston Rockets and Seattle Supersonics.

Johnson won the NBA championship while with the Seattle Supersonics in 1979.
