Ex-NBA, ABA players to host summer skills camp in Dallas

basketball-campSeveral retired NBA players will be hosting a summer youth basketball camp on Aug. 7 at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church, 1808 W. Camp Wisdom Road (Dallas, TX), Dallas news reported.

Former NBA and American Basketball Association players such as Willie Davis, Cincy Powell and Morlon Wiley will attend the camp.

The Dallas chapter of the National Basketball Retired Players Association sponsors the event.

Participants will practice ball-handling and dribbling, and learn fundamentals and conditioning. Offensive and defensive drills, shooting skills and life skills will also be part of the camp.

Morlon Wiley played 7 seasons in the NBA for various teams. He appeared in 295 NBA season games, starting in 39 of them, and averaging 3.7 ppg, 2.4 apg in 13.0 mpg.

Cincy Powell, was a 66th overall pick in the 1965 NBA draft, yet never played in the NBA.  The 6’7 forward-center spent his 8-year career in the ABA. He appeared in total of 559 games, averaging 16.3 ppg, 7.6 rpg in 31.1 mpg.

Willie Davis was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 1968 NBA draft, yet never played in the NBA. He spent one season in ABA, playing for the Texas Chaparrals during the 1970-71 season. Davis appeared in 8 games, averaging 2.3 ppg, 1.3 rpg in 3.6 mpg.
