Yao, Shaq, Iverson & Webber – among nominees for Hall of Fame 2016

Every year a limited number of NBA greats is selected and they become nominees for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame induction. The group of contenders for the Class 2016 looks quite impressive.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has announced the contenders for the Class of 2016, which include Shaquille O’Neal, Yao Ming, Allen Iverson and Chris Webber.

Another nominee who can stand among the abovementioned superstars is another type of a superstar, “the voice of the NY Knicks”, legendary basketball broadcaster Marv Albert.

It should be noted that Yao Ming, O’Neal and Iverson, who retired following the 2010-11 NBA season, are eligible under the newly-revised Hall of Fame rules which allows players to be nominated four years after retirement, instead of five.

Hall chairman Jerry Colangelo explained that there wasn’t any need to wait that long for some players to get inducted, thus the time frame was cut down to 4 years.

Back in 2015, the Hall of Fame accepted Jo Jo White, Dikembe Mutombo, Spencer Haywood, Louie Dampier.

In 2014, Alonzo Mourning, Mitch Richmond, Sarunas Marciulionis, Guy Rodgers and David Stern (former NBA commissioner) joined the Hall of Fame.

In 2013, the Hall of Fame welcomed Richie Guerin, Bernard King and Gary Payton.
