1963: Boston Celtics defeat LA Lakers, win 5th straight NBA title (VIDEO)


The Boston Celtics is the winningest team in NBA history. The Celtics won the NBA title 17 times (1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, 2008).

Many great NBA players, Hall of Famers, played for the Boston Celtics, helping the team win their championships throughout history. Among those players were Bob Cousy, Bill Russell, Larry Bird, John Havlicek, Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish and others.

In 1963, the Celtics were facing the LA Lakers in the NBA finals, to reveal the champion in the best-of-seven series. This was the Celtics’ 7th straight trip to the championship series, and they won the series over the Lakers, 4–2.

On April 24, led by Cousy, Russell, Havlicek and K.C. Jones, the Celtics defeated the LA Lakers in Game 6 of the NBA finals (109-112) to claim the title.
