Not too many NBA players have played the game of basketball with such determination, passion and energy as did former center Alonzo Mourning.
Mourning is considered one of the best centers of the 1990’s NBA era and has proven to be efficient even after having missed a full season during his career due to a kidney transplant.
Mourning received a kidney transplant in 2003 after being diagnosed with Focal Glomerulosclerosis, a degenerative kidney disease, in 2000. Mourning returned to the NBA following his transplant and has since been an advocate for kidney patients.
His hard work paid off when he won the NBA title with the Miami Heat in 2006. Overall, Mourning spent his 15 seasons in the NBA playing for Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat and New Jersey Nets.
He appeared in 838 games (686 started), averaging 17.1 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 2.8 bpg in 31 minutes of playing time. A 7-time All-Star and 2-time defensive player of the year, Mourning is in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
