About a week ago, former NBA player Caldwell Jones untimely passed away. Following his death, NBRPA, and the teams he played for, expressed their condolences.
Jones was one of six famous basketball-playing brothers – Caldwell, Major, Oliver, Wilbert, Charles, Melvin and Clinton – four of whom (Caldwell, Major, Charles, Wilbert) played in the NBA.
The 6’11 Jones was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers, 2nd round (14th pick, 32nd overall) in the 1973 NBA Draft.
He spent his first three seasons in ABA, before going to the NBA.
In the NBA, Jones played for Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls, Portland TrailBlazers and San Antonio Spurs. He spent 14 seasons in the NBA, holding career averages of 6.2 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.4 bpg in 24.8 mpg.
Combined, Jones played in 1299 games both in ABA and NBA, holding averages of 7.9 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 1.8 bpg in 27 mpg.
