dwayne-schintzius-4Dwayne Schintzius (October 14, 1968 – April 15, 2012) was an American college and professional basketball player who played in the NBA in the 1990s.

He played college basketball for the University of Florida, and helped to elevate the Florida basketball program to national prominence.

He was selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the 1990 NBA Draft, and played for six different NBA teams.

Schintzius played 8 years in the NBA, appearing in 217 games (33 started).

He played for San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings, New Jersey Nets, Indiana Pacers, LA Clippers and Boston Celtics.

Schintzius had his best season with the San Antonio Spurs in 90-91, when he averaged 3.8 ppg and 2.9 rpg in 9.5 minutes per game.

He holds career averages of 2.7 ppg and 2.5 rpg in 9 minutes of playing time.

Off the court, Schintzius was known for his performance as a Russian basketball player in the 1996 comedy film Eddie, and also for his distinctive mullet-style haircut.

He was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia in 2009, and, after treatment and a brief remission, died from complications of the disease in 2012.
